Five eye-opening places to celebrate National Coffee Day in Richardson

If you are one of those who relies on a cup of coffee to fully wake up in the morning, keep doing what you are doing. National Coffee Day is coming up on Sept. 29 and offers the perfect excuse to drink an extra cup. (and if you miss your perk on the big day, International Coffee Day is just two days later on Oct. 1!)

The National Coffee Association says that 7 out of 10 of Americans drink coffee every week, and that 62 percent drink it every day. As of March 2020, overall coffee consumption in the U.S. was up by 5 percent across the nation since 2015.


So if you are looking for a new place to stop for your morning pickup this year, here are a few in Richardson that you can check out.

Communion Coffee Shop

With a welcoming warmth of color inside, this café offers a refined taste beyond just its coffee. Coffee options include drip, cortado and the signature Cascara Palmer from the company’s custom-made Synesso espresso machine.


In addition to coffee, Communion Coffee Shop offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. There’s also an adjoining co-working space next to the shop.

I Love U A-Latte

This easygoing strip-mall café offers coffee drinks plus baked goods and smoothies in a mellow, comforting environment. Its colorfully painted walls and small, soft couches and chairs provide a quick grab-and-go or study location.

Along with the usual staple coffee items, the shop offers breakfast, lunch and a variety of desserts. The menu also lists 39 different latte flavors, including popcorn, gingerbread and pumpkin spice.

Junbi Matcha

Junbi, which translates to “preparation” in Japanese, is best known for its various matcha tea options. The shop also offers an assortment of other teas, espressos, americanos and lattes, and three types of rice balls.


Customers can also buy kitchen tools to make their own matcha at home from the store.

Magic Cup Cafe

This café’s offerings include espressos, frappes, fruit smoothies, bubble teas and other specialty teas. Its “Cha-series” includes five varieties of south-of-the-border chili, chamoy and tamarind candy with fresh fruit.

The café also offers a monthly curated selection of original drinks to reflect the season’s spirit.

Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea

Known for its friendly customer service and $3 triple iced French Vietnamese au lait, this franchise location offers a variety of teas and coffees. With the fall season, the shop is currently offering its spiced caramel apple cider and Great Pumpkin latte.

Other menu options include desserts, pastries and “light fare.”
